Katey Sleeveless was created during an Aaron Cometbus-infused winter of the early two thousands in the front room of a shotgun house in New Orleans that later succumbed to morose flooding and wreckage. It wasn't Cometbus' punk-rock legendary band Crimpshrine, but rather a Cometbus zine article listing the top fifty signs of punk rock love (one being sleeveless t-shirts) that inspired first a zine moniker & what later became an ongoing musical project encompassing songs of proclamation, revolution, love, metamorphasis and gypsy travels.

Sleeveless began making early tape cassette recordings at the age of four in her bedroom in Pennsylvania, making 'radio shows' and sing-along mixes she’d later trade at school with her best friend Nikki. Raised on Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Norman Blake and Martin guitars, the farmhouse record player spun incessantly until Sleeveless left as a teenager to pursue the traveling life.

Legendary Minneapolis tape cassette label Peddling Records housed Sleeveless releases for the first few years, after which a geographic shift and new friends landed her on Colorado's Blank-Tape Records. Sleeveless has since toured the U.S. and Europe. In 2010, collaborations with The Haunted Windchimes led Sleeveless to Omaha, where she met future love and fellow musician Adam Hawkins (It's True!). The two have since traveled together playing music and have collaborated on a number of musical projects. In October 2011, along with their wily pup Chamero and young son Amilio, the two will embark on an extended east coast tour in support of their respective new releases.
